09.12.2010 - 06.02.2011: WŁADYSŁAW HASIOR - COMEBACK
The exhibition inaugurated the activities of the Gallery of Contemporary Art BWA SOKOL.
The artwork of Wladyslaw Hasior is one of the most original phenomenons in the Polish art of the second half of the 20th century. His artistic activities never copied any acknowledged aesthetic trends and his works did not fit into the conventional meaning of a ‘piece of art.’ Hasior created new means of expression, both in terms of iconography and in the field of artistic resources, such as spatial compositions, assemblages, monumental sculpture, banners, and happenings. He introduced a completely new quality to the Polish art and his then ’ahead of times’ and shocking works have become today’s classics. They constitute an important reference in the consideration of the art of the second half of the 20th century and of the most modern artistic achievements of today.
Choosing this particular artist for the inauguration of the activities of our Gallery has been purposeful. Hasior as no other artist whatsoever defines the main direction of our future work – to present phenomenons determining the shape of modern visual creation.
The exhibition included artist’s works from museums (The Tatra Museum in Zakopane, Art Gallery in Gorzow Wielkopolski, Central Museum of Textiles in Lodz, Silesian Museum in Katowice, Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw, Regional Museum in Nowy Sacz) and private collections. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalogue.
